Emily (aka Berlin) has been a sweet addition to our family. She is very calm and gentle and does well with our young children. She is also getting along with our other dogs.
Emily did not eat much her first couple of days, so we started adding hamburger meat to her food to entice her. She is eating three cups a day, twice a day now, and is slowly getting more perky.
She does not like the cold rainy weather (who does?) and has spent most of this week asleep on the couch. She has not had any accidents in the house and has seemed to master the potty business outside rather well. She does her business and runs right back to the back door! She does not like to be outside by herself, so I'm still going outside with her for her potty breaks.
Emily does extremely well in her crate and sleeps through the night without a problem. She can be in her crate during the day when we are all in the house and she does not whine or cry.
Emily enjoys our company and likes to cuddle on the couch. She seems to just be grateful to have a warm bed and food in her tummy. She has never been too nervous or hesitant with me, my husband or the kids. She does not seem to have any real major fears or trauma issues. We had the house full with company this weekend and she never showed any sign of fear or apprehension. She approached everybody willingly and let them love on her. Although she is far from fully recovered, I can see her coming out of her shell a little everyday. She even wags her tail when she sees me or my husband come in the room.
Emily has no muscle mass and is still very thin. I hope that when her physical health improves, that she will start finding things that she enjoys more. There is still a sense of sadness about her, that I hope goes away soon. I'm hopeful that she will soon find joy with her forever home!
